Revolutionary Hackers “Anonymous” Steal Credit Info, Donate To Charities

Hacker group "Anonymous" hijacked Stratfor Security for client info

A hacker movement calling themselves "Anonymous" claims to have broke into Texas-based security think tank Stratfor's system and they threatening to release the private info over the net. Stratfor's client list includes Apple, Inc, the Miami Police Department and the U.S. Air Force. So yes, a company that is supposed to protect companies and institutions from being hacked, got hacked. What makes the hack even more embarrassing is that Anonymous claimss that Stratfor didn't bother encrypting their own employees' information to protect them from hackers.

The group says that they stole the information, which includes home addresses and credit card numbers, in hopes of draining accounts and donating the money to various charities. And they don't appear to be done.

“Not as many as you expected? Worry not, fellow pirates and robin hoods. These are just the `A’s,” read a message from the group. So far they claim to have hacked 4,000 passwords,

addresses and credit cards or 200 gigabytes worth of information.
Because of the hack, many people played Santa Claus without realizing it.
Cybercrime expert Allen Barr, a former Texas Department of Banking worker, saw his bank account rummaged for over $700 with the money going to charities.
“It was all charities, the Red Cross, CARE, Save the Children. So when the credit card company called my wife she wasn’t sure whether I was just donating,” said Barr, who didn't know he was hacked until a news reporter told him. “It made me feel terrible. It made my wife feel terrible. We had to close the account.”
Others, who may not be as well off as Barr and his family were hit especially hard.
“They took money I did not have,” said Stratfor employee Cody Sultenfuss.
Anonymous isn't new to this. They've taken credit for hacking PayPal, eBay, MasterCard, Visa and the Church of Scientology.
Victims of this latest hack will be able to get their money back if they contact their bank and verify that they have been robbed.
